A Baby Horse on its Mum’s Lap
One of the greatest shortcomings of any human society is the inability to see just how closely we are related to the animal kingdom. Most of this is due to the fact that animals serve as food in just about every place you can imagine. But, unfortunately, human ignorance will always tend to creep in and, as a result, you will find those who will think nothing of inflicting great cruelty and suffering on animals. From those who feel the need to cut the fins off live sharks to those who butcher live dogs in the most horrendous ways. This is done either for a meal or the superstitious belief that animal pain will somehow grant the elusive gift of virility to those who don’t know any better.
However, not everyone is mired in superstition and ignorance. There are those of us who understand what can be seen in the eyes of animals. It’s more than the spark of intelligence. It is the same light of spirit that we see in our own eyes when we look into a mirror – or into the eyes of our loved ones. The limitation of non-verbal communication is no longer a factor at that point. It’s all that is required of us in order to understand the souls of those who exist in the animal world.
Here, we present some images that may illustrate to you what we mean when we ask you to look into the eyes of these creatures. I can only imagine that you will see the souls that lie behind those eyes. This is the world that surrounds us and makes ourworld complete. As humans, we are not alone here and we should take the responsibility to understand this and practice this in our daily lives. The gift of the animals is just part of the things in our world that offer us hope and companionship.
